You’d have to be living under a rock not to notice the abundance of espadrilles we’ve been seeing this season. We’re not talking about the 4-inch wedges with the ankle strap ties, but the understated flat versions that every designer from Emilio Pucci to Ralph Lauren has whipped up their take on for Spring/Summer 2018.

At the helm of this trend is Nick Brown, a downtown New York resident, who upon graduating from Trinity College, yearned for a pair of the traditional jute soled shoes he had grown up wearing as a kid during summers in Spain.

With the help of friends, family and Soho locals in 2016—Nick created Solduos, a brand of traditional espadrilles that embody laidback living at its finest. Originally selling to select boutiques in Montauk, New York and L.A., the Solduos brand has ballooned in just three seasons, landing collaborations with nationwide retailers like J. Crew.

Just in time for summer, we caught up with Nick to get the scoop on his latest projects and find out a little more about the man behind the brand.

You’ve travelled all over the world to introduce your brand, so what is your favourite place to wear Soludos?

It’s been amazing to travel with Soludos, but there is nothing like a lazy Sunday afternoon strolling around Nolita in Soludos. I start off by reading the paper with a morning coffee at Gitane, head over to the West Side Highway for a stroll, and then cook up a storm with sangria and some friends at home for dinner.
